Unable to Use Certain PFI Lines on PXI-6624 as Triggers

Hardware: Counter/Timers (TIO)>>Devices>>PXI-6624

Problem:
Why do I get  Error -89136: Specified route cannot be satisfied, because the hardware does not support it when I select certain PFI lines on my PXI-6624 isolated counter board, to be used as trigger lines for other PXI devices in the same PXI chassis?

Solution:
The PXI-6624 counter board is an isolated counter board which allows the generation/acquisition of pulse trains with voltage ranges of 0-48V.  To ensure a safe operating environment for the PXI chassis and other modules, these PFI lines are isolated from the PXI backplane.  Because these PFI lines are isolated they cannot be routed to other devices in the chassis.

Error -89136 will be thrown every time the following PFI Lines are chosen as trigger lines for other devices in the chassis.  The other PFI lines on the card can be routed to the backplane without any problems.
  • PFI8
  • PFI12
  • PFI16
  • PFI20
  • PFI24
  • PFI18
  • PFI32
  • PFI36
Workaround

Even though it is not possible to reference the counter outputs directly (the PFI lines mentioned above) it is possible to reference the internal counter input corresponding to the desired counter.  To do this it is necessary to expose the advanced terminals.  To do this please see KnowledgeBase article 3G0G2lZH referenced in the Related Links section below.

After exposing the advanced terminals browse the DAQmx terminal constant/control and select the InternalOutput that refers to your particular counter.  The internal output of the counter 2 on the PXI1Slot2 Device would look like: Dev2/Ctr2InternalOutput.
