How Can I Enable LabVIEW 2016 or 2017 Support for ECU Measurement and Calibration Toolkit (ECUMC) 15.0?

Problem:
I want to upgrade to LabVIEW 2016 or 2017 but I can't find a version of ECU Measurement and Calibration Toolkit that is supported. How can I upgrade LabVIEW and still include support for ECUMC?

Solution:
To enable LabVIEW 2016 or 2017 support for ECUMC 15.0, follow these steps:
  1. Install LabVIEW 2015 and LabVIEW 2016 or verify that they are both currently installed.
  2. Install NI-XNET 16.0 or later.
  3. Run the ECUMC 15.0 Installer. Within the Features dialog, select LabVIEW 2015 support for the installation. The bitness selected should be the same as the LabVIEW 2016/2017 installation you plan to use. 
  4. After completing the ECUMC 15.0 installation, reboot your computer.
  5. Open the NI License Manager and activate the LabVIEW/ECUMC feature if it is not already. This can be found under LabVIEW 2015»Toolkits
  6. In Windows Explorer, open your LabVIEW 2015 directory (depending on if you are using 32-bit or 64-bit):
  7. LabVIEW Version File Location
    LabVIEW 2015 32-bit C:\Program Files(x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2015
    LabVIEW 2015 64-bit C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2015

  8. In a new Windows Explorer window, open your LabVIEW 2016/2017 directory (depending on if you are using 32-bit or 64-bit):

    LabVIEW 2016 32-bit C:\Program Files(x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2016
    LabVIEW 2016 64-bit C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2016
    LabVIEW 2017 32-bit C:\Program Files(x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2017
    LabVIEW 2017 64-bit C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2017

  10. Copy the following folders and files from their location in the LabVIEW 2015 directory to the corresponding location in the LabVIEW 2016/2017 installation directory:
    • <LabVIEW 2015>\vi.lib\ECUMC
    • <LabVIEW 2015>\vi.lib\addons\ECUMC
    • <LabVIEW 2015>\examples\ECUMC
    • <LabVIEW 2015>\help\niecumc.chm
    • <LabVIEW 2015>\help\niecumc.txt

  11. In Windows Explorer, open the Shared directory (one level up from the LabVIEW directory) and copy lvexecumc.bin4 from the 15.0 directory:
    • <National Instruments>\Shared\Example Finder\1.0\Products\LabVIEW\15.0\exbins\english\lvecumc.bin4

  12. Paste the copied file into the corresponding 16.0/17.0 location:
    • <National Instruments>\Shared\Example Finder\1.0\Products\LabVIEW\16.0\exbins\english\lvecumc.bin4
    • <National Instruments>\Shared\Example Finder\1.0\Products\LabVIEW\17.0\exbins\english\lvecumc.bin4

  13. Open LabVIEW 2016/2017, and Mass Compile the following folders:
    • <LabVIEW 2016>\vi.lib\ECUMC
    • <LabVIEW 2016>\examples\ECUMC
    • <LabVIEW 2017>\vi.lib\ECUMC
    • <LabVIEW 2017>\examples\ECUMC


  14. Restart the computer.
