What are some frequently asked questions about licensing for the LabVIEW FPGA Module?

Solution

How Does Licensing for LabVIEW FPGA work?

Licensing for LabVIEW FPGA is very similar to licensing for LabVIEW. If you have downloaded the LabVIEW FPGA, you will be able to use it for 30 days before purchasing a license. Once you have purchased a license, you can activate your LabVIEW FPGA module through the NI License Manager. You can also extend the evaluation period for 45 days.

What if I need to install the LabVIEW FPGA module on one computer, and the LabVIEW FPGA Compile Server on a different computer?

You can install and activate both the LabVIEW FPGA Module and the LabVIEW FPGA Compile server on separate computers using one license. When you install the LabVIEW FPGA module, you have the option to install individual features, rather than the entire package. You can choose to install the LabVIEW FPGA module on one computer, and the LabVIEW FPGA Compile Server on a second computer.

Use the NI License Manager to activate the LabVIEW FPGA Module and the Compile Server on separate computers. On each computer, you will activate FPGA Module, under Local Licenses » LabVIEW »Modules. Although it appears that you are activating the entire module on both computers, you are only activating the feature that is installed. Use the same activation code or serial number for both the LabVIEW FPGA Module and the LabVIEW FPGA Compile Server.

What happens if my LabVIEW evaluation expires prior to my LabVIEW FPGA Module evaluation?

In order to use the LabVIEW FPGA 30-day trial, you will need to either have LabVIEW activated on your machine, or have a 30-day trial of LabVIEW. If you activate your LabVIEW trial immediately after it expires, you will still have access to your LabVIEW FPGA trial for the remaining days. This will not extend the length of your LabVIEW FPGA 30-day trial, even if you were unable to use LabVIEW FPGA during the time LabVIEW was expired.

Can I read LabVIEW FPGA code without a license?

In order to read and edit LabVIEW FPGA code, LabVIEW FPGA Module has to be installed and activated on the PC. Otherwise, the following warning will be shown:
