Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
This document lists some common difficulties that users may encounter while using LabVIEW SignalExpress 2.0.

Solution:
  • LabVIEW SignalExpress does not support logging of frequency domain signals or timed digital signals. These signal types will not appear as options on the Signal Selection Page of the Recording Options tab.

  • Installation of LabVIEW SignalExpress 2.0 removes previously installed versions of SignalExpress 1.X.X. Data saved in SignalExpress 1.X.X will still be accessible in LabVIEW SignalExpress 2.0.

  • Installation of LabVIEW SignalExpress replaces a previous installation of SignalExpress Tektronix Edition. There are several possible ways of handling this situation, depending on whether or not the customer would like to use SignalExpress Tektronix Edition alone or in conjunction with LabVIEW SignalExpress 2.0. For more information about this, see:

KnowledegeBase 490KN79S: Upgrading SignalExpress Tektronix Edition to LabVIEW SignalExpress 2.0 Results in Limited Functionality

  • VI Logger data must be converted with a conversion utility for use in LabVIEW SignalExpress. For more information about this, see:

NI Developer Zone: Migrating Data from VI Logger to LabVIEW SignalExpress

  • Generating LabVIEW code from a LabVIEW SignalExpress project can result in an ExpressVI labeled "SignalExpress" appearing on the block diagram. A LabVIEW application using this "black box" ExpressVI cannot be distributed to a computer that does not have LabVIEW SignalExpress installed. For more information about this, see:

KnowledgeBase 47TGOST7: Express VI Created by Code Generation Feature in LabVIEW SignalExpress

  • When LabVIEW SignalExpress is installed, it installs support only for the most recent version of LabVIEW installed on the computer at that time. This can cause problems related to the LabVIEW code generation feature in LabVIEW SignalExpress when multiple versions of LabVIEW are installed. For more information, see:

  • A LabVIEW VI created in a version of LabVIEW prior to LabVIEW 7.1, or any VI saved using the Save for Previous Version option in LabVIEW, cannot be used in a LabVIEW SignalExpress project. Also, a LabVIEW VI must be reentrant to be usable in LabVIEW SignalExpress. For other important considerations and a step-by-step description of how to use a LabVIEW VI in LabVIEW SignalExpress, see:

KnowldegBase 47CHSAN5: Using a LabVIEW VI with LabVIEW SignalExpress

  • LabVIEW SignalExpress Limited Edition requires registration after a 30 day trial period. If not registered, LabVIEW SignalExpress will not work at all after this trial period.

  • Using multiple DAQ Assistants to access different channels on the same board is not allowed in LabVIEW SignalExpress.  Users can be misled because the API will allow this selection to be made and no error results until the user actually attempts to run the project.

  • TDMS Files Created in LabVIEW SignalExpress 2.0 cannot be viewed in Excel using the TDMS Excel Add-In. As a workaround to this problem, a Subset and Resample step can be used in LabVIEW SignalExpress to acquire the data and then use a Save to ASCII/LVM step can be used to save an ASCII file that can be opened in Excel without errors.

  • Opening a Graph Properties dialog in LabVIEW SignalExpress 2.0 and then closing it by clicking the red 'X' in the upper right-hand corner causes LabVIEW SignalExpress 2.0 to freeze.  To prevent this from occuring, you must close the window using the OK button.
