Errors When Trying to Run a Sequence on a Remote Windows XP Machine

Primary Software: TestStand
Primary Software Version: N/A
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I am using the LabVIEW Operator Interface in my local computer to run a sequence on a remote Windows XP machine. Even after setting up the REngine for TestStand in the remote computer as indicated in the user manual, I keep getting an error saying that my sequence can't be accessed. However, I am able to run the sequence remotely from the Sequence Editor. What is happening and how can I resolve this?

Solution:
This behavior is related to a documented Microsoft bug. Refer to the Microsoft article linked below for more information. This problem occurs because in Windows XP, the DCOM Authentication Level setting defaults to "Default" and this is insufficient to be able to launch some ActiveX applications. Changing the default Authentication Level from "Default" to "Connect" (the default setting for Windows 2000 and NT), will solve the problem. Follow the next steps to accomplish this:

  1. Launch the Windows DCOM Configuration application by going to Start»Run and typing dcomcnfg. You will see a window titled "Component Services".

  2. Navigate through the tree view by opening the folders Component Services»Computers»My Computer.

  3. Right-click on My Computer folder and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu.

  4. Switch to the Default Properties tab. Select "Connect" as the Default Authentication Level and click the Apply button.

  5. Press the OK button to close the window, or else continue modifying DCOM properties as discussed in the National Instruments KnowledgeBase links below.
