Communicate with SCXI in Both Parallel Mode and Serial Mode with Only One DAQ Card.

Hardware: SCXI>>Modules>>SCXI-1124, SCXI>>Modules>>SCXI-1163, SCXI>>Modules>>SCXI-1162, SCXI>>Modules>>SCXI-1162HV

Problem:
I would like to use one SCXI module in Parallel mode and the other in Serial mode. Is there a way to do this with a single Data Acquisition (DAQ) card?

Solution:
You can use a single DAQ card to control two SCXI modules, one module in parallel mode and a non-analog input module in serial mode.

When you configure a SCXI module in parallel mode, the digital control lines can be accessed through the SCXI backplane. If your second SCXI module uses serial communication, such as the SCXI-1124, you can use a single DAQ board for communication with both SCXI modules.

Here is how to configure this in Measurement and Automation Explorer.
  1. Create a new SCXI Chassis. Under Devices and Interfaces, right click on NI-DAQmx Devices. Select Create New NI-DAQmx Device»NI-DAQmx SCXI Chassis»select your Chassis
  2. Under Chassis Communicator, select your DAQ card. Select the slot of the parallel mode module for the Communicating SCXI Module Slot.

  1. Select accessories for all modules
  1. Select Details of the parallel mode module.
    • Select the Cabling tab.
    • Select the DAQ card under Module Digitizer.
    • Select Parallel for Digitization Mode.
  1. Ignore the Connect one of the modules in multiplexed mode to a DAQ device warning and select OK
  1. Your SCXI chassis is now configured and ready for use.
