Error Installing TestStand 2.x on a Machine with LabWIndows/CVI 8.1 Runtime Engine

Problem:
I am trying to install TestStand version 2.x on my machine. When I run the installer I get the following error.



If I choose to continue, TestStand does not work properly. I currently have LabWindows/CVI 8.1 Runtime Engine installed. What can I do to fix this problem?

Solution:
This problem occurs because the TestStand installer before version 3.0 included the LabWindows/CVI Runtime Engine inside of the TestStand Engine installer. Because of this, if a new version of the Runtime Engine is present, you will receive this error and functionality of the TestStand Engine will not be correct.

There are two possible ways to fix this problem:
  1. Upgrade TestStand past version 3.0 (strongly recommended).
  2. Uninstall LabWindows/CVI Runtime Engine before installing TestStand 2.x and reinstall after TestStand is present.

Once either of these steps are taken, the problem should no longer occur.
