How Do I Use the Continuous Wavelet Transform to Produce a Scalogram?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Full Development System
Primary Software Version: 6.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Toolkits>>Advanced Signal Processing Toolset, LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Professional Development System

Problem: I have some non-stationary data that I want to analyze. How do I use the Continuous Wavelet Transform to produce a scalogram in LabVIEW?

Solution:

You must have the LabVIEW Signal Processing Toolset or the LabVIEW Advanced Signal Processing Toolkit installed on the computer to perform this task.

If you have the Signal Processing Toolset installed, complete the following steps:

  1. Add the Scalogram control to the front panel by navigating to Adv. Sig Processing»Scalogram.ctl.
  2. Add the Easy Continuous Wavelet Transform VI to the block diagram by navigating to Adv. Sig Processing»Easy Level Wavelet»Easy Continuous Wavelet Transform.vi.
  3. Wire the Scalogram to the Scalogram indicator of the Easy Continuous Wavelet Transform VI.
  4. Right-click the Scalogram and create a property node. Browse to XScale property»Offset And Multiplier»All elements.
  5. Repeat the previous step to add the property YScale»Flipped.
  6. Wire the property items to the Easy Continuous Wavelet Transform VI according to the figure below.

If you have the Advanced Signal Processing Toolkit installed, complete the following steps:

  1. Add the WA Scalogram Indicator control to the front panel by navigating to Signal Processing»Wavelet Analysis. The WA Configure Scalogram Indicator VI appears on the block diagram with the reference of scalogram indicator input and the scalogram indicator output already wired.
  2. Add the WA Continuous Wavelet Transform VI to the block diagram by navigating to Signal Processing VIs»Wavelet Analysis VIs»Continuous Wavelet Transform VI.
  3. Wire the CWT coef and the scale info outputs of the WA Continuous Wavelet Transform VI to the CWT coef and scale info inputs of the WA Configure Scalogram Indicator VI according to the figure below.
