Changing NI Default Directory During Install Causes Errors

Primary Software: NI Installers>>Installer Framework
Primary Software Version: 2.5.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:

If you have previously installed National Instruments software on your computer, and then installed either:

  • LabWindows/CVI 8.5.0,
  • LabVIEW Sound and Vibration Toolset or Measurement Suite 6.0, or
  • IVI Compliance Package 3.2

to a different National Instruments installation directory:

than the previously installed software, the software listed above will change crucial registry keys for all previously installed National Instruments software.

This may cause many different types of issues, such as:

  • The installer produces an error dialog because it cannot find the activation wizard
  • Driver or toolkit support within LabVIEW is missing/broken
  • An application reports missing run-time DLLs and shuts down

Solution:

To confirm this issue is present on your computer:

  1. Run the attached executable (ApplicationScan.exe) that checks for the presence of the above listed software.
  2. Check your hard drive to confirm you have previously installed National Instruments software to more than one directory.

Your computer is affected by this issue only if both of these conditions are true.

To resolve this issue, please contact support.

Note:  Do not try to manually edit values in the registry or move folders on the hard drive.  This can break MSI's understanding of the current system state, causing undesired run-time and install-time behaviors.
