How Do I Change the Version of LabVIEW Real-Time on the [c]FP-2xxx Module When Using MAX 3.0.x or Earlier?

Problem:
I've upgraded LabVIEW and I need to update the LabVIEW Real-Time version on my FieldPoint controller, or I am receiving the error Access Denied: LabVIEW RT communication protocol version mismatch when attempting to connect to my RT Target.

Solution:
To change the version of LabVIEW Real-Time on your [c]FP-20xx module when using FieldPoint 3.0.x, follow the instructions below:
  1. Launch FieldPoint Explorer 3.0 (or higher) by going to Start»All Programs»FieldPoint»FieldPoint Explorer.
  2. Go to the Remote System Explorer:
     
    • Right-click on FieldPoint and select Add a comm resource to this server.



    • Change the Type to Ethernet and click on Browse.

  3. Right-click on the FieldPoint module to update and select Install/Upgrade Software



  4. Choose the version of LabVIEW Real-Time to install and click on OK.
  5. Click on Install to proceed with the installation.


To change the version of LabVIEW Real-Time on your [c]FP-2xxx module when using FieldPoint 4.x, follow the instructions below:
  1. Launch Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) by going to Start»All Programs»National Instruments»Measurement and Automation.
  2. Expand Remote Systems and highlight the controller.



  3. Expand the FieldPoint target.
  4. Right-click on Software and select Install Software.
  5. The Select software to download dialog appears. Enable or disable the check boxes to choose the software you want to install. Click OK to begin the software download.



  6. When the installation is complete, click Yes when prompted to reboot the remote system.
  7. Select your controller from the configuration tree. The system state on the Network Settings tab should now be Connected-Running.


Note: If you have multiple software versions installed on your host machine, by default the most recent version will be the one available for download. If you want to download any other software version, see Download Software under MAX Help » Help Topics » Remote Systems » Remote System Configuration.

Note: Since the FieldPoint VIs are installed with FieldPoint Explorer, if you installed LabVIEW after you installed FieldPoint Explorer, the FieldPoint VIs may not appear in your LabVIEW functions palette. If these VIs do not appear in your functions palette, modify the installation of FieldPoint Explorer through Add/Remove Programs to install the FieldPoint VIs for LabVIEW or completely uninstall and reinstall FieldPoint Explorer after LabVIEW has been installed.
