How Can National Instruments Time Synchronization Service be Configured Without Lookout or the LabVIEW DSC Module ?

Primary Software: Lookout
Primary Software Version: 5.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software:

Problem: A networked Client-Server application with Lookout or the LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control (DSC) Module usually runs full versions of the application software or is distributed with the run-time systems. However, if you are using Lookout Player (Web Client) or LabVIEW Remote Panel as "Thin Clients" you might want to configure the NI Time Synchronization Server on the remote client computer.

How can you do that?

Solution: There is no graphical user interface (GUI) for the time synchronization service available, because in the normal use case you configure it through Lookout or the DSC Module. If none of this application software is available on your client computer, you can follow these steps:
  1. Make sure Lookout Web Client and/or LabVIEW Remote Panel are not running

  2. Open command line window with Start >>Run >>'cmd' or 'command'

  3. Type lktsrv -stop

  4. Type lktsrv -start # IP [IPx] , where # is the number of seconds between synchronization and IP is the IP Address of the server computer. For example lktsrv -start 30 10.0.38.50

Note: If you want to add multiple time servers, you can use a second IP after the first server IP - [IPx] is optional.

Consult the Lookout or DSC Module online help or manuals for more information about Time Synchronization of networked computers.
