Why Do I Get Error 10401 when I Try to Use My NI 5401 Arbitrary Function Generator with Virtual Bench-Arb?

Hardware: Signal Sources (AWG/FG/AO)>>Arbitrary Waveform and Function Generators>>PCI-5411, Signal Sources (AWG/FG/AO)>>Arbitrary Waveform and Function Generators>>PXI-5401, Signal Sources (AWG/FG/AO)>>Arbitrary Waveform and Function Generators>>PCI-5431, Signal Sources (AWG/FG/AO)>>Arbitrary Waveform and Function Generators>>PCI-5401, Signal Sources (AWG/FG/AO)>>Arbitrary Waveform and Function Generators>>AT-5431, Signal Sources (AWG/FG/AO)>>Arbitrary Waveform and Function Generators>>AT-5411

Problem: I am unable to use my NI 5401 Arbitrary Function Generator in Virtual Bench-Arb. Whenever I try to do so, I get Error 10401 --"The specified device is not a National Instruments product, the driver does not support the device (for example, the driver was released before the device was supported), or the device has not been configured using the Measurement & Automation Explorer." Why is this happening?

Solution: Virtual Bench-Arb is intended to be used with either an E Series multifunction DAQ board or with the NI-5411/5431 Arbitrary Waveform Generator devices. When used with the 5411/5431, Virtual Bench-Arb accesses the waveform memory, a large block of RAM on the board for stroring multiple waveforms. The 5401 does not have this multi-waveform memory; it can only store a single waveform at a time in DDS (direct digital synthesis) mode. See the link below for more information on DDS and Arb mode.

Instead of using Virtual Bench-Arb, you should use Virtual Bench-FG. This program uses the single-waveform memory on the 5401 board and allows you to use all the functionality of your 5401 device. Virtual Bench-FG will also work for a 5411/5431 to generate a single waveform in DDS Mode (see link below).
