National Instruments PC/104 Devices

Hardware: GPIB

Problem:
Does National Instruments carry any devices in the PC/104 form factor, and if so, how do I troubleshoot them?

Solution:
Yes, National Instruments has one device in the PC/104 form factor. The NI PC/104-GPIB board is a is a low-cost, high-performance IEEE 488 interface in a PC/104 module.

Note: This is the only PC/104 device that National Instruments carries.

The most common problems with configuring this device relate to the jumper and DIP switch settings.  If the hardware settings for IRQ (jumper), DRQ (2 jumpers), and the I/O address (DIP switches) match the settings in the device manager, the device should function normally, as long as no devices have the same settings (the device property window will show a warning if there are any conflicts).  The schematic below shows the location of the jumpers, DIP switches, and other points of interest on the board.

A common source of confusion is the definition of 1 and 0 on the dip switches.  As shown on the card, a 1 should be pushed down on the left side (white on the right side).  The getting started guide gives what settings correspond to the possible I/O ranges.
