FW-7344 Not Detected in MAX With NI-Motion 7.1 or Later Installed

Hardware: Motion Control>>Controllers>>FW-7344

Problem:
I installed NI-Motion 7.1 or later and my FW-7344 does not show up in MAX and is not recognized as a motion control board.

Solution:
The FW-7344 is obsolete as of NI-Motion 7.1 and only works with NI-Motion 7.0 and earlier. To use the FW-7344 you must install NI-Motion 7.0 or earlier.

To get the FW-7344 to work with LabVIEW 8.0 or later, perform the following steps:
  • Copy the Motion directory from C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\vi.lib\Motion to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\ LabVIEW 8.0\vi.lib\Motion.

  • Note: Even if you don't have LabVIEW 7.1 installed, you can force the NI-Motion support for LabVIEW 7.1 to install and then copy the directory.

To get the Motion VI’s to show up in the LV 8.0 palettes, perform the following steps:
  • Copy the files from the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\menus\default\motion directory into the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\menus\Categories\VisionMotion\_nimcfx folder.

  • Note: You might have to create the _nimcfx folder if it does not exist already in the …\LabVIEW 8.0\menus\Categories\VisionMotion\ directory.

  • Copy the nimcfx.mnu file (that is linked below) into the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\menus\Categories\VisionMotion directory.

  • Shut down LabVIEW 8.0 if it is open. Once you restart LabVIEW 8.0, you will be able to see the Motion VI’s in the Vision and Motion → NI-Motion Palette.

To get the Motion example programs to show up in the NI Example Finder, perform the following steps:
  • Make sure that you have installed the NI-Motion LabVIEW Examples.

  • Copy the following folder: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\examples\Motion to the following directory: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\examples.

  • Once you copy the folder, open the NI Example Finder and then Browse by Directory Structure. You should see a Motion folder and the NI-Motion Example programs will be located in the FlexMotion folder.
