PCI or PCMCIA GPIB Device Fails the GPIB Interfaces Sequentially Verified Test

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-488.2
Primary Software Version: 2.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: GPIB

Problem:
When I run the Troubleshooting Wizard in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), my National Instruments PCI-GPIB or PCMCIA-GPIB device fails the "GPIB Interfaces Sequentially Verified" test. How do I resolve this issue?

Solution:
For PCI-GPIB boards and PCMCIA cards, the following steps will help you troubleshoot and resolve this issue.
  1. Confirm that the GPIB cable is not connected to your GPIB device. If it is connected to the GPIB device, disconnect the cable and run the Troubleshooting Wizard.

  2. Upgrade to the latest version of the NI-488.2 driver appropriate to your GPIB device. See the Related Links section below to find out which version of the NI-488.2 driver for your device and operating system. It is recommended that you uninstall the previous version of the driver before installing a newer version.

It is recommended that you install the new driver before inserting the GPIB device in the computer. To learn more about the recommended GPIB hardware installation procedure, see the Hardware Installation/Configuration Troubleshooting found in the Related Links below. After you correctly install the latest driver and reinstall the GPIB device, run the Troubleshooting Wizard.

  3. If you have a second PCI slot available in your desktop, move the PCI board to that slot. Likewise, if you have a second PCMCIA slot in your laptop, try moving the PCMCIA card there. After moving your GPIB device, run the Troubleshooting Wizard.

  4. For Windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP, go to My Computer»Control Panel»System. Click on the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button. Verify in the Device Manager that the GPIB hardware has been detected by the computer. Right-click on the GPIB device and choose Properties to verify that the hardware has been installed correctly.

Click on the Resources tab to see if there are any resource conflicts. Your GPIB device may have an interrupt (IRQ) conflict with another device in your computer. For information on how to resolve IRQ conflicts with third-party devices, see the related link below. After any resource conflicts have been resolved, run the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Note: Windows NT does not have a Device Manager utility. For information on how to resolve conflicts in Windows NT, consult the Hardware Installation/Configuration Troubleshooter linked below.
