Remote Sense Inputs on the SCXI-1520 and PXI-4220

Hardware: SCXI>>Modules>>SCXI-1520, Signal Conditioning Other

Problem: I noticed two input terminals on my SCXI-1314 terminal block: RS+ and RS- What are these terminals and how do I use them?

Solution: These are the remote sense input terminals. They can be used to check the level of the bridge excitation voltage. You can run separate wires from the bridge to these terminals so that the amplifiers obtain feedback directly from the bridge, thereby forcing bridge voltage to equal the desired setting. Since the wires connecting to the remote sense terminals do not carry any current, they can more accurately determine the voltage at the bridge. This feedback allows the excitation voltage to be increased until the exact desired voltage is applied across the bridge.

If you leave the remote sense terminal unconnected, internal 1 k. resistors provide feedback to the buffers from the P+ and P– terminals. Therefore, you need not install any jumpers between RS+ and P+, nor RS-, and P–. However, this method will not as accurately reflect the desired excitation voltage across the bridge.
