When I place new components in my Multisim 9 schematic, they are assigned the same value in their Refdes description. How can this be fixed?

Primary Software: Electronics Workbench>>Multisim
Primary Software Version: 9.0.41
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Electronics Workbench>>Multicap

Problem: When I place new components in my Multisim 9 schematic, they are assigned the same value in their Refdes description. How can this be fixed?

Solution: This issue was addressed in a previous Multisim 9 patch which can be installed from the EWB Support and Upgrade Utility (SUU):
  1. Go to: Start >> All Programs >> Electronics Workbench >> Multisim 9 >> Check for updates
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions
Once the patch is installed all new files created will no longer have the duplicated Refdes value issue, however pre-existing files will. In order to resolve this:
  1. Open the Multisim schematic file
  2. Go to Edit >> Select All
  3. Copy the selection by going to Edit >> Copy (or pressing ctrl + C)
  4. Open a new schematic by going to File >> New Schematic Capture
  5. Paste the original schematic into the new page by going to Edit >> Paste (or pressing ctrl + V)
This new schematic will have the proper (non-repeating) naming convention.
