NI Software Crashes After Installation of Additional NI Software

Problem:

After installing additional NI software, some previously installed and/or newly installed NI Software now crashes because it is missing a required DLL.  For example, in this scenario TestStand may report the following error:

Retrieving COM class factory for component with CLSID{B2794EF6-C0B6-11D0-939C-0020AF68E893} failed due to the following error:  80040154.

How can I resolve this issue?

Solution:

To resolve this issue, install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package from Microsoft.  Use the following links to download this package, depending on the bitness of your NI Software:

• Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x32)
• Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)

This issue occurs in exceptional circumstances where a new version of an NI Installer component mistakenly uninstalls Visual C++ DLLs that other NI Software requires.
