LabVIEW SignalExpress Gauge and Meter Controls Cannot be Loaded

Primary Software: LabVIEW Signal Express>>Development System
Primary Software Version: 1.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Control Design and Simulation Module, LabVIEW Toolkits>>System Identification Toolkit

Problem:
When I try to use the Gauge or Meter displays in LabVIEW SignalExpress, I get an error saying Controls cannot be loaded. All other displays and controls work fine. Why is this?

Solution:
This is a known issue and is due to shared components that get installed with the NI LabVIEW System Identification Toolkit and/or the NI LabVIEW Control Design and Simulation Module. Installing the Assistants for either one of these Add-Ons can result in this error. One of the following two steps can be used to make Gauges/Meters display properly in LabVIEW SignalExpress
  • Go to \National Instruments\MAX\Assistants\ folder and rename SysId.lbw and ControlDesign.lbw to SysId.bak and ControlDesign.bak respectively. If one of these files do not exist, then that particular Module/Toolkit is not installed and hence the corresponding .lbw file will not be present in the folder. NOTE: Renaming these files back to .lbw will reactivate the respective Assistants. This is useful if the functionality is required later on.
  • If the Module/Toolkit Assistants are not being used currently, then use the Add/Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel to uninstall the System Identification Assistant as well as the Control Design Assistant. The Module/Toolkit needn't be uninstalled completely, only the Assistants have to be removed.

General Workaround: If you need to use the Control Design Assistant or System Identification Assistant in your project, then the above mentioned solutions will not be applicable. Hence, using Large Display (Right Click the Display » View As » Large Display) instead of a Gauge or Meter display would be the recommended workaround.

Update for SignalExpress 3.0: LabVIEW SignalExpress 3.0 with the Control Design and Simulation Module 8.6 will not cause this error. Older versions of the Control Design and Simulation Module and/or any version of the System Identifcation Toolkit will exhibit this behavior.
