Do the Analog Frame Grabbers Have Any Overvoltage Protection?Hardware: Image Acquisition (IMAQ)>>Analog Image Devices>>PCI-1409
Problem: I am trying to configure an image acquisition system to acquire a non-conventional video signal that has a peak-to-peak range greater than 1.5V. I would like to use the IMAQ 1409 board to acquire the signal, but the specifications in the boards user manual do not list the maximum voltage the 1409 can handle. The only specification listed is the input range (black and white) that goes to 1.4 V. If I input a voltage over 1.5V will I damage the board? Is there any overvoltage protection? Solution: The video inputs on the 1408 and 1409 frame grabbers have diodes to clamp the signal at +/- 5V. If you need to exceed the 1.5V limit but stay within +/- 5V then you should not hurt the board; however, you will probably get poor results. In order to avoid this problem then you should probably use an attenuator to bring the video signal down to a range suitable for the image acquisition board. Besides this, there is no explicit overvoltage protection built into these boards.
