When I create or edit a component in my user or corporate database, the default reference designator has a "U" prefix. Is there a way to change this default?

Problem: When I create or edit a component in my user or corporate database, the default reference designator has a "U" prefix. Is there a way to change this default?

Solution: The default component designator is set in the Multisim database manager. To change it:
  1. Select Tools >> Database >> Database Manager
  2. Click on the Family tab
  3. Highlight the family where the component was saved to. In the example pictured in Figure 1, the Resistor family is highlighted
  4. In the Component RefDes section, enter the desired designator in the Default Prefix field
  5. Click the Close button to save the changes and exit the database manager
