Why Do I Get Compile Errors After Editing mswgp.wrd in Word 2002?

Primary Software: MATRIXx
Primary Software Version: 6.3
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software:

Problem: I want to make changes to the DocumentIt template for Microsoft Word. I have made sure that I resaved the document as Rich-Text, but I still get compile errors. What is wrong?

Solution: Word 2002 implements a new change tracking mechanism. Any changes that are made to a document are flagged with a random number. In rich-text this random number is denoted by \insridXXXXX. DocumentIt does not know rich-text and parses the document as text. If the \insridXXXXX occurs inside of TPL statement then you will get a compile error.

Note: The \insridXXXXX statement can not be seen in Word, it can be seen when the document is opened in a pure text editor such as notepad.
To avoid Word adding these extra statements go to Tools>Options>Security and disable the option for Store random number to improve merge accuracy. This will not remove existing marks, so you may need to start from the original template again.
