NI License Manager and Another FLEXnet Publisher (formerly FLEXlm) Licensed Application Conflict

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 3.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I have NI software that uses FLEXnet Publisher (formerly FLEXlm) licensed and another software application that uses FLEXnet Publisher licensing. When I install both the NI application and the other software application on my computer, I cannot use one of the software applications.

Solution:
This is caused because all FLEXnet Publisher (formerly FLEXlm) licensed applications share the same registry key for their licensing daemons. When a product is installed, that product's licensing information will always overwrite the information that was initially installed. Thus, the software that was installed last will work successfully. To allow both software applications to run successfully at the same time, complete the following steps:
  • Download FLEXnet Publisher lmtools from the FLEXnet Publisher website (see Related Links below).
  • Run lmtools.exe
  • On the Service/License File tab, select Configuration using Services
  • Switch to Config Services tab
  • Name the service "Company FLEXnet" where Company is the company whose program is not working due to a conflict with another FLEXnet Publisher licensed application. (If NI products are not working, name the service NILM License Manager".) It's possible that the license manager might already appear in the Service Name ring control. If so, simply select the appropriate service.
  • Enter the correct path for that company's License Manager executable. (For NI products, this is C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\Bin\lmgrd.exe)
  • Enter the correct path for their license file. (For NI products, this is C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\Licenses)
  • Check the box Use Services
  • Check the box Start Server at Power Up if you want the license server to start automatically (For NI products, this is only necessary if you want to be able to use LabVIEW Remote Panels every time the computer starts).
  • Click on the Save Service button.

For locations of other company's license executables and license files, please contact that company.
