How do I Setup an IP Address for my NI WLS/ENET 9163?Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)>>Wireless DAQ>>WLS-9163
Problem: I have my network card configured with a static IP address and I have connected a WLS/ENET-9163 device directly to the card. I am unable to discover the sleeve through MAX and a physical reset of the device does not help. How can I discover and add the sleeve? What is the device's default IP address so I can add it manually? Solution: All WLS/ENET-9163 devices first look for a DHCP server and when that is not available they will search for a local connection. In this case, the WLS/ENET-9163 device is using a link-local address, defined in Request for Comments: 3927 (see related links), and your computer is set to static. This generally happens because your static IP address most likely exists on a different subnet from link-local addresses, which are on the 169.254.xxx.xxx subnet. Due to the fact that they are in different subnets, they cannot talk to each other. The user must use a standard CAT5 ethernet cable between WLS device and the PC or HUB which is contrary to the normal use of a crossover cable. The NI WLS/ENET-9163 device has a built-in switch in the hardware that handles the need for a crossover cable. Also be sure to enable DHCP in your network connections properties. To enable DHCP, follow these steps:
