Using SCB-68 to Access the Digital I/O Lines of a 73xx Motion Controller

Hardware: Motion Control

Problem:
I have a PCI/PXI 73xx motion controller. Can I access the digital I/O lines of this controller using a general purpose breakout box like the SCB-68?

Solution:

Yes, you can access the DIO lines of a 73xx motion controller using a general purpose breakout box like the SCB-68. You will require a SH68-C68-S cable connection between the SCB-68 and the digital I/O connector on the motion controller card.  The pinout for the digital I/O connector on the particular motion controller card should be referenced for troubleshooting instead of the pinout for the SCB-68.  Also make sure that the dip switches on the SCB-68 are configured for digital I/O operation in the following manner shown in Figure 1:

For situations requiring optical isolation it is recommended to use a UMI-777x. The UMI allows access to 16 of the 32 DIO lines available on the Digital I/O connectors of the 73xx motion controllers.

Note: For more details refer to the user manual of the UMI-777x linked below.
