Problem: I have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed. When I run the NI Ethernet Device Configuration Utility it does not detect the GPIB-ENET/100 on my network. I have manually configured the device using its Default Hostname and can communicate with my instrument successfully, but it still can not be found by the Ethernet Device Configuration Utility. How do I get my device to show up? Solution: In some cases the firewall that is installed with Service Pack 2 can block the Ethernet Device Configuration Utility. The simplest solution is to disable the firewall. Sometimes this isn't a possibility because someone else has restricted your access to do this. You must add C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-488.2\GPIB-ENET\EthernetConfig.exe to your list of Exceptions for your Windows firewall, or add the ports listed in the KnowledgeBase linked below.
