Why Do I Get an Error in MAX After Downgrading From LabVIEW Real-Time 8.6 to 8.5?

Primary Software: Utility Software>>Measurement & Automation Explorer
Primary Software Version: 4.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: 4.5
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module

Problem:
After downgrading from LabVIEW Real-Time 8.6 and Network Variable Engine 1.5.0 to LabVIEW Real-Time 8.5 and Network Variable Engine 1.4.0, I get one of the following messages in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) when I try to expand Remote Systems >> Software:





I also get the following error message when I start the Software Wizard:





Solution:
This is a known issue in MAX.  The following steps will return your target to a working state:
  1. Either reformat the target OR
    1. Open a Windows explorer window.
    2. Enter the following into the address bar: ftp://‹ip-address›/ni-rt/system, where ‹ip-address› is the address of your target (10.0.42.148 in above screenshot).
    3. Locate the config.cdf file in the list of files and delete it.
  2. Reinstall the software.
