Archived: Error or Hang While Emailing Disconnected Licenses From NI VLM

This document has been archived and is no longer updated by National Instruments

Primary Software: NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 2.1.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
When I try to Email Disconnected Licenses to my users using NI Volume License Manager, NI VLM either hangs or I get the following error message:
A Connection with the email server could not be established. Ensure your server is connected to the Internet and check the NI VLM Email Server settings.

I know that my server is connected to the Internet and the Email settings are correct.
Why does this happen and how can I fix it?

Solution:
This error message can be caused by an older version of McAfee, VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0's On-Access Scan can block your server from sending an Email containing your Disconnected License.

Note: The On-Delivery Email Scanner does not cause this, it is only the On-Access Scan that blocks the Email.

Workarounds:

  • Update McAfee VirusScan
  • Disable On-Access Scan
  • Manually copy over Disconnected License to the target machine
