How do I install NI SoftMotion Development Module for LabVIEW 8?

Problem:
I purchased the NI SoftMotion Development Module 1.0 and wish to use it in LabVIEW 8. The installer only has support for LabVIEW 7.1. Can I use the NI SoftMotion Development Module 1.0 in LabVIEW 8?

Solution:
The NI SoftMotion Development Module 1.0 was built for LabVIEW 7.1, but can be used with LabVIEW 8 after performing the following steps:
  1. If the NI SoftMotion Development Module 1.0 is not installed, install it with LabVIEW 7.1 support.
  2. Copy the vi.lib files to LabVIEW 8.
    1. Copy the SoftMotion folder: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\vi.lib\Motion\SoftMotion.
    2. Paste this folder in the Motion folder: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\vi.lib\Motion.
  3. Copy the menu files to LabVIEW 8.
    1. Go to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\menus\default\motion and copy the following files:
      1. motion4.mnu
      2. nisoftmotionsdk_contour.mnu
      3. nisoftmotionsdk_move.mnu
      4. nisoftmotionsdk_tg.mnu
    2. Paste these files in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\menus\default\motion folder.
  4. Copy the shipping examples to LabVIEW 8.
    1. Copy the SoftMotion folder: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\examples\Motion\SoftMotion
    2. Paste this folder in the Motion folder: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\examples\Motion\
Note:
  1. Some of the LabVIEW 8 folders may not exist. If this is the case, you will need to create these folders.
  2. This process requires the installation of LabVIEW 7.1.x and LabVIEW 8.0.
