Why Can't I Choose the Internal Clock on the Counter Example Program "Meas Angular Position-Buffered-Cont-Ext Clk.vi"?Primary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Base PackagePrimary Software Version: 6.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A Hardware: Counter/Timers (TIO)>>Devices>>PCI-6602, Counter/Timers (TIO)>>Devices
Problem: The Counter Example Program "Meas Angular Position-Buffered-Cont-Ext Clk.vi" is found in the LabVIEW Example Finder under: Hardware Input and Output»DAQmx»Counter Measurements»Position. The example program is the simplest way to acquire buffered signals from three quadrature encoders and translate those signals into angular positions. It specifies that an external clock is to be used; however, I do not have an external clock signal and want to use an internal clock. Solution: In the VI Description, there is a note that states: An external sample clock must be used. Counters do not have an internal sample clock available. You can use the Gen Dig Pulse Train-Continuous example to generate a pulse train on another counter and connect it to the Sample Clock Source you are using in this example. The "Gen Dig Pulse Train-Continuous.vi" can be found in the LabVIEW Example Finder under: Hardware Input and Output»DAQmx»Generating Digital Pulses. This VI can run simultaneously and the output for the counter that is generating a continuous digital pulse can be selected in the Meas Angular Position vi. Also, the two VIs can be combined.
