Types of Ethernet Cable Used with GigE CamerasHardware: Image Acquisition (IMAQ)
Problem: Do I need a standard Cat-5 Ethernet cable to connect my GigE Camera directly to my network card, or do I need a crossover cable? Solution: Either cable will work when directly connecting a GigE camera to your computer's network card; the NI-IMAQdx driver has built-in functionality to determine which cable you are using. When connecting the camera to a hub, router, or switch elsewhere on your network, you must use a standard cable (straight-through) which does not cross over.
