Is it Possible to Synchronize the Time-Stamps from Multiple PCI-CAN Cards through RTSI? Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-CANPrimary Software Version: 2.2 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A Hardware: Industrial Communications>>CAN>>PCI-CAN
Problem: I have multiple PCI-CAN cards in one computer. We also have multiple instances of an application running, one for each card. In order to correlate our data we need to know if it is possible to make it so the time stamps on the CAN frames do not drift. Is this possible? Solution: Since each CAN card does its own time-stamping based on its own clock, each card may have discrepencies over time and 'drift' may be a concern. However, it is possible to connect the Master Timebase of the seven cards through RTSI. One of the CAN cards can act as the Time Master and then export its signal to the RTSI bus (the other cards would take the clock from RTSI instead of their own). The Channel API VI 'CAN Sync Start with NI-DAQ' will handle this automatically once the RTSI cable is properly installed. Related Links: What is RTSI?
