Opening LabWindows/CVI with an Empty Workspace

Primary Software: LabWindows/CVI Development Systems>>Full Development System
Primary Software Version: 8.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
Every time I open LabWindows/CVI it opens with the last project that I had been working on. Is there a way to open LabWindows/CVI with a blank workspace?

Solution:
You can get this functionality by using a command line prompt to open LabWindows/CVI with a new project, which will result in an empty workspace. If calling LabWindows/CVI from the Run... command line you would enter

"C:\Program Files\National Instruments\CVI81\cvi.exe" -newproject

in the command line prompt. Adjust the file path if you are using a different version of LabWindows/CVI.

In Windows you can adjust your shorcut links to include command line functions so that the behavior of your shorcut link will change accordingly. To do this:

  1. Right-click on the shortcut link you normally use to launch your program.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. In the Target box add -newproject at the end of your target location.

  4. Save and close the properties.
Now when you select your shortcut link LabWindows/CVI will be opened with an empty workspace and new empty project.
