Can I Access the Counter Output Signal with the NI 9481/9485?

Hardware: CompactRIO>>Digital Output Modules>>NI 9481, CompactRIO>>Digital Output Modules>>NI 9485

Problem:
The manual shows that the NI 9481/9485 modules have two counter outputs. Why am I not able to see a pulse train signal generated when I use these counter outputs?

Solution:
There are two counter outputs specified for the NI 9481/9485. You can access these counters when used in slot 5 or 6 in a cDAQ chassis. However, these counter outputs will not output a digital pulse train that can be measured.

The NI 9481/9485 are 4 and 8-Channel Relay boards respectively. When the counters are used on these modules, each rising edge of the counter output will open or close the relay contacts on the board. There is not physical signal that will be output from the module. The advantage of using a counter out with the relay module is you will have hardware timed relay switching. An external power source needs to be provided to the circuit in order to be able to see a generated pulse train output.
