Non-Plug and Play Data Acquisition Board Installation in Windows NT

Hardware: Legacy DAQ Devices

Problem: I have a Non-Plug and Play DAQ board that I need to install in Windows NT. Are there step-by-step instructions for doing this?

Solution:
  1. Double-click on the Measurement & Automation Explorer icon on your desktop. You will see a window as shown below:

Note: Don't plug in the board yet.

  2. Double-click on "Devices and Interfaces". You will see all your existing National Instruments devices as shown below:

  3. Right-click anywhere on the white space (do not select any device) in the window and select "Insert." You will see a list of devices.

  4. Select your DAQ device from the list and click "Next."

  5. Next window will prompt you to assign system resources to the board as shown below. Notice that NI-DAQ has assigned your board a device number.

  6. Select each system resource and click "Modify." This will allow you to set the individual resource.

Assign other system resources in the same way.

  7. Make sure that the resources you assign are not in conflict with any other device. If in conflict, you will get the following message when you click "Next."

Check for free system resources on your computer.

  8. Write down the resource settings that are accepted by your system.

  9. Click "Next." You will be prompted for settings like polarity/range, accessory. Make appropriate settings as required. Please write down the all the settings you make in NI-DAQ as you would have to set the jumpers on the board to match these settings in the next step. After making all the settings, click on "Finish."

  10. Now you should see your board listed under "Devices and Interfaces." Go to File ยป Save and save your configuration as niconfig.daq (default).

  11. Power off your computer.

  12. Set the base address dip switches and other jumpers on your DAQ board to match the settings made in steps 6-10. Please refer to the board manual for the jumper settings. You can also download the manual from our online Product Manuals Library

  13. Plug the board in your computer after setting all the jumpers. Power on your
