Problem: What is the NI-488.2 and GPIB Documentation CD?
Solution: The NI-488.2 and GPIB Documentation CD is a compilation of user documents for GPIB products. This CD ships with all DOS or Windows 3.1 GPIB kits.
To make the most out of your experience, run this CD on Windows 95 or higher with Internet Explorer version 5 or higher. To use the Document Search Tools, JavaScript must be enabled in your web browser.
You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 3.0 or later to view your user documentation. If you do not have version 3.0 or later, refer to the Adobe Systems Incorporated Web site at www.adobe.com to download the Acrobat Reader program.
Each document can be saved to your local hard drive, or referred to again on this CD. If you have misplaced your CD, the contents of the CD are attached below.
If you have Autorun disabled, you can launch the Document Search Tools by double-clicking on
Autorun.exe or by browsing to the
/documentation//Overview.html file.
Common Questions- Question: Does this kit include manuals for Solaris, Linux, Mac OS, HP-UX, Digital Unix, AIX, OS/2, or IRIX systems?
Answer: No, this CD includes manuals for DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP systems. Note that this CD does not ship with all of those GPIB kits, since most of the recent kits have the documents compiled on the software CD already. You can find these manuals at the Product Manuals section of ni.com, as linked below.
- Question: Does this CD work only work with Internet Explorer 5 or higher?
Answer: Yes, this CD is designed for use with Internet Explorer 5 or higher at this time. Future revisions may include other web browsers. However, at this time, there are certain features on the CD that are not supported by all browsers, so you may encounter an error message. If you do have Internet Explorer 5 or higher but are still experiencing an error message, you may not have a particular feature installed. You may need to reinstall or upgrade.
- Question: If this CD is included in DOS and Windows 3.1 kits, can I run the CD from DOS or Windows 3.1?
Answer: The CD includes HTML files to aid in usability so that you can find the manuals that apply to your product/OS combination or your part number. The assumption is that you will also have a Windows 95 or higher system that will allow you to view the documentation. If you do not have such a system, you should be able to lookup the filename of the manual you are looking for in the Readme.txt and browse the CD for the document while running DOS or Windows 3.1.
- Question: Why do I get "Program Start Error" or "A required .DLL file, MFC42.DLL was not found" message when I insert the CD into a Windows 95 machine or I try to run Autorun.exe from the web download?
Answer: The Autorun.exe relies on the MFC42.DLL. You can either bypass running the Autorun.exe by browsing to the /documentation//Overview.html file to use the Document Search Tools or you can install MFC42.DLL onto the system.
- Question: How come the PDF does not open when I try to click on one of the manuals when using the Document Search Tools, even though I have Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 installed?
Answer: Note that there are some issues between Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 and Internet Explorer 5 or higher. While the PDF documents can be opened using Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0, you may not be able to view them within Internet Explorer 5 or higher using the Document Search Tools. We recommend that you upgrade the Adobe Acrobat Reader version.
