Why Do I Get a Message "Unable to Start Server" when using NI VLM on Windows 2000?Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License ManagerPrimary Software Version: 1.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I am using the NI Volume License Manager (NI VLM) on Windows 2000. When I try to click the Apply Changes button, I get an error message which says Unable to Start Server. When I try to manually launch the NI License Manager service, I get an error that says Error 193: %1 is not a valid Win32 application. Why do I get this error and what can I do to fix this? Solution: This error occurs when the path to the Service's executable contains spaces. There is a Microsoft Knowledge Base that addresses this question. The Microsoft KnowledgeBase article is linked below and applies to Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows 2000 Professional. The name of the Service which will appear in the registry is NILM License Manager. Follow the instructions as listed in the KnowledgeBase article using the service name of NILM License Manager.
