Problem: How do I install the integrated ethernet adapter on a Windows 95/98 PXI or VXI/VME controller?
Solution:
Some of the information in this document is only applicable to specific controller models. Device specific information is identified as such.
Note: This document does not discuss configuring the ethernet adapter on the PXI-8210. Refer to the PXI-8210 installation guide for more information on configuring the PXI 8210 Ethernet and SCSI adapter. This document also does not discuss the installation or configuration of any network protocols, such as TCP/IP.
VXIpc-870 and VXI/VMEpc 600 Series Controllers
These models use a plug and play Symbios 53C885 ethernet adapter. No user intervention is
required to configure this ethernet adapter - Windows 95/98 will automatically recognize and
configure this ethernet adapter.
VXIpc-800 Series, VXIpc-745, PXI-815XX Series Controllers
These controllers use a SMC 9000 legacy ISA ethernet adapter. This ethernet adapter may be configured for use in Windows 95/98 by following the steps outlined below.
- Double click on the Network icon in the Control Panel.
- Select Add from the Network Configuration tab dialog.
- Select Adapter as the network component type.
- Select the Have Disk option. Windows will prompt you to enter the path to the directory containing the driver for the ethernet driver.
The file path that you should use for each of the VXI/VME and/or PXI controllers is shown in the table below.

You will be able to browse to this directory.
- Select SMC 9000 Ethernet Adapter from the list of SMC network adapters.
- Complete the installation process and proceed to install and configure any network protocols you require.
