Starting a Data Acquisition with an External Digital Trigger Pulse Using a PC-LPM-16 or a DAQCard-700

Hardware: Legacy DAQ Devices>>Multifunction DAQ>>DAQCard-700

Problem: How can I start a data acquisition with an external digital trigger pulse using a PC-LPM-16 or DAQCard-700?

Solution: The only way to start a data acquisition sequence with an external digital trigger pulse is to use the trigger pulse to gate a square wave generating counter, and put the square wave output into the EXTCONV* input of the device. The counters on the device cannot be gated on a pulse because they only have either high- or low-level gating, so you must use some external circuitry to change the pulse to a high- or low-level TTL signal. You also can use a flip flop, which changes the state of its output with each rising edge on the CLK input, thus converting two pulses into a level gate signal.
