Filtering Out 60 Hz Noise When Using the SCC-SG04 and other SCC Strain Gauge Modules Hardware: SCC>>Carriers>>SC-2345
Problem: The SCC-SG04 along with the rest of the SCC-SG0X and SCC-SG24 strain gauge modules all have a 1.6 kHz low pass filter. What can I do to filter out unwanted frequencies lower than 1.6 kHz, for instance 60 Hz? Solution: The SC-2345 supports dual stage signal conditioning. You can use an SCC-LP low pass filter module in series with the SCC-SGXX strain gaugue modules, to remove unwanted frequency components. The SCC-LP modules feature two input channels. Each channel has a fourth-order Butterworth filter for fast rolloff above the cutoff frequency. The SCC-LP02 will remove frequencies higher than 50 Hz and is ideal for removing 60 Hz noise. Other SCC-LP filter modules are available with different cutoff frequencies. Install the strain gauge module in any Jx (where x is 1 through 8) socket, and place the low pass module in the Jx+8 socket. You will have to make the appropriate settings in MAX also. Check the SC-2345 user manual for more details about dual stage conditioning.
