Problem: What are some of the frequently asked questions regarding the installation of Vision Assistant?
Solution: NOTE: Several portions of this page make reference to Vision Builder version 5 or 6. Vision Builder is the name that was used prior to version 7, when the new name of Vision Assistant was adopted. The references to Vision Builder on this page are not related to Vision Builder for Automated Inspection.
Installation
- Requirements for Vision Builder 6
To use Vision Builder 6, you must have Vision 6 installed. It will not work with older versions of Vision. It can be used with previous versions of LabVIEW, but if you want the powerful feature of VI generation to work, you will need LabVIEW 6.0 or later. Otherwise you will have to wire everything by hand using the builder file.
For information about upgrading to the latest version of LabVIEW, please check out the Upgrade Advisor at the Related Link below.
- The Vision Builder Installer Does not Accept my Serial Number
Be certain that you do not try to launch the MSI installer directly by double-clicking on it. This may result in an error message indicating that your serial number is invalid. Instead, you should start the installation by running the normal setup.exe or autorun.exe, which will work correctly. This procedure applies to other National Instruments software as well.
- Installing the Vision Assistant
As of NI-Vision 7.0, the Vision Assistant became part of a collection of vision tools called the Vision Development Module. The Vision Development Module consists of NI-Vision, Vision Acquisition software (IMAQ drivers), and the Vision Assistant. There will be an option in the installation tree for the Vision Development Module to install the Vision Assistant.
- Activating the Vision Assistant
After installing the Vision Assistant, activation will be required. The serial number for NI-Vision can also be used to activate the Vision Assistant that installs with it. To activate Vision Assistant, perform the following steps:
- Open the NI License Manager (Start » Programs » National Instruments » NI License Manager.)
- Look for a listing for Vision X.x where X.x corresponds to the version of the Vision Development Module that you have installed starting with verion 8.0 or later. Note: Activation is not necessary for all versions of the Vision Development Module prior to 8.0.
- Expand the Vision X.x category
- Select NI Vision Assistant from the list, and click on the Activate button at the top of the NI License Manager window. Follow the instructions to activate. Use the same serial number that was given to activate NI-Vision. Assuming that NI-Vision has already been activated, you can find the serial number that was used to activate NI-Vision by first selecting NI-Vision in the list and observing the
Serial Number field in the upper right corner of the NI License Manager window.
Vision Assistant with IMAQ for IEEE 1394
- Does the IMAQ for IEEE 1394 Firewire Driver Work with Vision Builder?
The released version of the NI-IMAQ driver for IEEE 1394 Cameras is designed to work with Vision Assistant 7 and Vision Builder 6, but not Vision Builder 5. Upgrading from Vision Builder 5 to Vision Assistant 7 will solve that problem. (See the Upgrade Advisor link below. Select the "Vision Software" option.)
Similarly, the beta version of the driver only works with Vision Builder 5, because Vision Builder 6 and Vision Assistant 7 were not yet available at the time of its development
