Problem: There are different types of SMB (SubMiniature B) connectors available including: 50 ohm, 75 ohm, 75 ohm high-density, and mini SMB (75 ohm). Which kind are the type used on NI hardware devices?

Solution: SMB connectors are used on multiple NI hardware devices including:
  • Dynamic Signal Acquisition - 447x and 446x
  • High-Speed Digitizers
  • PXI Controllers - TRIG connectors
The type of SMB connector found on these devices is the 50 ohm SMB jack, designed for a connector shell size of about 0.250 inches in diameter. NI offers a variety of SMB connectivy and cable options including:
  • SMB-100 - SMB plug to BNC jack cable
  • SMB-110 - SMB plug to BNC plug cable
  • SMB-120 - SMB plug to BNC jack with 10 dB of attenuation built-in
  • SMB-200 - SMB plug to SMB plug
  • SMB-300 - SMB plug to alligator clip
