My Reformatted CVS is No Longer Found in My Remote Devices in MAX

Hardware: Image Acquisition (IMAQ)>>Compact Vision System

Problem: I reformatted my Compact Vision System (CVS) and now I can no longer find it under Remote Devices in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). What do I do?

Solution:

When your CVS is reformatted, its IP address is reset to 0.0.0.0 which gets broadcasted via UDP packets. Assuming that no physical connections were changed, it is most likely a firewall that is preventing the CVS from being detected.

Many firewalls do not allow access to a "blank" IP addresses. When MAX searches for the IP address 0.0.0.0, even though it exists on the network, it may be blocked by the firewall.

To correct this:

  1. Disable the firewall software (upon approval of your IT administrator if applicable).
  2. Refresh MAX (F5 key), and expand the Remote Devices section.
  3. If the CVS does not appear immediately, search for it by its IP address. To do this, right-click on Remote Systems and select Create New... ยป Remote Device.
  4. It will ask you for its name or IP address, simply enter the IP address (in this case 0.0.0.0) and it will search for it.
  5. Once the CVS is recognized set the IP address to your preferred value. Then you can turn your firewall software back on.

IMPORTANT: Check to make sure that all of the dip switches (the four white switches on the front) are in the off position before rebooting the CVS with the new IP settings.
