Are National Instruments Products Compatible with Windows 98?
Primary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>Full Development System
Primary Software Version: 5.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: We have extensively tested Windows 98 with National Instruments hardware and software and found very few discrepancies with Windows 98. Reports by each product group are listed below.
Solution: - LabVIEW -- LabVIEW 5.0.1 is the first version tested extensively on Windows 98. There were no problems discovered with Windows 98. Older 32-bit versions of LabVIEW should work as expected. However, we have not tested LabVIEW 5.x or earlier extensively on Windows 98.
- Instrument Drivers (LabVIEW 5.0 & CVI 5.0) -- No problems found when tested with Windows 98. Tested VXI, GPIB w/SRQ, and Serial instrument drivers.
- LabWindows/CVI -- The only known problem is that the option to disable creating a directory for DirSelectPopup doesn't work on Windows 98. This will be fixed with an update to version 5.0. Everything else works correctly on Windows 98.
- ComponentWorks -- No known problems on Windows 98. All ComponentWorks specific components should work as they do on Windows 95. Other pieces like CVI and HiQ (part of the CW FDS) behave as listed.
- Measure -- No known problems on Windows 98. Measure behaves as on Windows 95.
- VXI/VME/MXI -- We tested the Windows 95 NI-VXI and NI-VISA driver software on Windows 98. The following are compatible on Windows 98.
- VXIpc 800/700 Series: NI-VXI/VISA for Win95
- PCI-MXI-2: NI-VXI/VISA for Win95
- AT-MXI-2: Windows 95 Compatibility layer (thunker)/VISA
- AT-MXI-1: Windows 95 Compatibility layer (thunker)/VISA
The speed on Windows 95 and Windows 98 is comparable. Each operating system had certain NI-VXI/VISA APIs that were slightly faster than the other with less than 3 to 5% speed differences. For most applications we do not expect perceptible changes in speed. All of our Windows 95 native drivers work on Windows 98.
- DAQThe latest driver available for DAQ devices in Windows 98 is NI-DAQ 7.1. Please refer to the link below for the Data Acquisition (DAQ) Installation/Configuration Troubleshooter webpage to find an up to date list of which driver version corresponds to which operating system.
- GPIB -- The NI-488.2 Windows 95 driver and Compatibility software release underwent extensive testing and work without any problems.
- Motion Control -- No known problems on Windows 98.
- IMAQ -- No known problems on Windows 98.
- Industrial Communications Products (includes Lookout and BridgeVIEW) -- No known problems on Windows 98.
- VirtualBench -- No known problems on Windows 98.
- BioBench -- No known problems on Windows 98.
- Fieldbus -- No known problems on Windows 98.
- CAN -- No known problems on Windows 98.
- DeviceNet -- No known problems on Windows 98.
- Serial (AT and PCI interfaces) -- No known problems on Windows 98.
