Using a Local SMTP Server to Debug SMTP Issues

Primary Software:
Primary Software Version: N/A
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I'm having trouble using the SMTP E-mail VIs in LabVIEW (or the mailer object in Lookout). Is there any way that I can install a local SMTP server to facilitate debugging?

Solution:
Yes, Softstack makes a program called Free SMTP Server that you can use to troubleshoot this type of problem.
While running this application, you can specify localhost as the IP address of your SMTP server and Free SMTP Server will send the email.

If the email is sent successfully using Free SMTP Server while another SMTP server you tried does not work, then you know your problem lies somewhere with that specific SMTP server (or communication to that server).
