Problem:
How do I use FTP to transfer files between my host machine and a Real-Time target using Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX)?

Solution:
LabVIEW Real-Time targets support FTP. You can use any FTP client such as FileZilla, Windows Explorer or any 3rd party FTP client. MAX also has a built in FTP client that you can use to graphically transfer files to a target without using a command prompt. You can install this feature by enabling the option in the installer options for the LabVIEW Real-Time Module as shown in the snapshot below.

Steps to use the MAX FTP client follow:
  1. Right-click on the Real-Time target in remote systems and look for the File Transfer option in the drop-down box.

  2. This will open the MAX FTP client window. You can transfer files between the host and the target by selecting files from the host or target directory trees and using the To Remote or To Local buttons.

When an external CompactFlash, USB drive or other storage device is connected to the Real-Time controller, access them through the following method.

  • Access the external CompactFlash by typing /D: in the Current Remote Directory field.
  • Access the USB drive by typing /U: in the Current Remote Directory field.

Type /C: in the Current Remote Directory field to return to the controller's hard drive. More information is located in KnowledgeBase 2KM92E5F: How Do I FTP to the External CompactFlash on a Compact FieldPoint RT Controller.
