What National Instruments Products Support Current Input

Hardware: Compact FieldPoint, Multifunction DAQ (MIO), SCXI, SCC

Problem:

I need to measure a current, but I don't know what products National Instruments makes that will let me read a current.

Solution:

The following devices support reading a current input:
  • Multifunction DAQ
    The NI 623x devices support current input measurements.
    • PCI-6236 / PXI-6236 - is a 4-channel (16-bit) bank isolated device for +/- 20mA
    • PCI-6238 / PXI-6238 - is an 8-channel (16-bit) bank isolated device for +/- 20mA
    • PCI-6239 / PXI-6239 - is an 8-channel (16-bit) bank isolated device for +/- 20mA
  • SCXI
    For SCXI terminal blocks that are configured for current input, each input channel includes a 249 Ohm precision resistor, so you can read 0-20 mA or 4-20mA current inputs.

    • SCXI-1338 - is a current input terminal block for the SCXI-1120, SCXI-1120D, SCXI-1125 and SCXI-1126 analog input modules.
    • SCXI-1308 - is a current input terminal block for the SCXI-1100 and SCXI-1102 Series analog input modules.

  • SCC
    As with Multifunction DAQ and SCXI, SCC reads current input because each input channel includes a 249 Ohm precision resistor, so you can read 0-20 mA or 4-20mA current inputs.
    • SCC-CI20 - is a dual-channel module that accepts two 0 to 20 mA or 4 to 20 mA current loop inputs.

  • Digital Multimeters
    All National Instruments DMMs are designed to measure current.

  • FieldPoint
    Both FieldPoint and Compact FieldPoint have I/O Modules that can be configured for voltage or current input.
    • AI-110 - is an 8-channel (16-bit) single-ended input module for 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA, or +/- 20mA (software selectable)
    • AI-100 - is an 8-channel (12-bit) single-ended input module for 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA, or +/- 20mA (software selectable)
    • AI-111- is a 16-channel (16-bit) single-ended input module for 0 to 20 mA, 4 to 20 mA, ±20 mA (software selectable)
    • AI-CXXX- is a 2-single ended or 1-differential (12-bit) input module for mA or A range signal (software selectable).

  • C-Series
    There are several C-Series Modules that have current input capability that can be used in either a cRIO or CompactDAQ chassis.
    • NI 9203 - is an 8-channel (16-bit) module for +/- 20mA
    • NI 9219 - is a 4-channel (24-bit) module that can be configured for +/- 25mA
