Problem: I would like to download and install the National Instruments Platform DVD. What is the procedure for installing the Image/ISO files? Solution: Starting with National Instruments LabVIEW 8.6, National Instruments provides platform DVD image files on the National Instruments website as a way for customers to receive their copy of National Instruments software quickly. The Services Resource Center website is linked below. Images or ISOs are files that are created to be easily distributable to computers which either do not have a DVD/CD drive or if the DVD/CD for particular software has not arrived yet. An image file can then be downloaded and expanded on the target computer using third-party software. The third-party software can be used to create a virtual CD/DVD drive and install the software from the image. The process of expanding an ISO/image file is called mounting the image. Please be aware that some of the images on the National Instruments website take over 4 gigabytes of hard drive space. Internet Explorer version 7 and earlier innately have a download size restriction of 4 gigabytes or smaller. Internet Explorer 8 does not have this restriction. When downloading files that are over 4 gigabytes, Internet Explorer will not warn the user of the possible corruption of the file and will download the file by leaving out components.
