How Can I Download and Install the National Instruments Platform DVD?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Professional Development System
Primary Software Version: 8.6
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I would like to download and install the National Instruments Platform DVD. What is the procedure for installing the Image/ISO files?

Solution:
Starting with National Instruments LabVIEW 8.6, National Instruments provides platform DVD image files on the National Instruments website as a way for customers to receive their copy of National Instruments software quickly.  The Services Resource Center website is linked below.

Images or ISOs are files that are created to be easily distributable to computers which either do not have a DVD/CD drive or if the DVD/CD for particular software has not arrived yet. An image file can then be downloaded and expanded on the target computer using third-party software. The third-party software can be used to create a virtual CD/DVD drive and install the software from the image. The process of expanding an ISO/image file is called mounting the image.

Please be aware that some of the images on the National Instruments website take over 4 gigabytes of hard drive space. Internet Explorer version 7 and earlier innately have a download size restriction of 4 gigabytes or smaller. Internet Explorer 8 does not have this restriction. See Related Links for information about downloading large files with Internet Explorer. When downloading files that are over 4 gigabytes, Internet Explorer will not warn the user of the possible corruption of the file and will download the file by leaving out components.

If you are running into installation issues after downloading and mounting the ISO file, the issue may be due to Internet Explorer version 7 and earlier corrupting the file. Customers who have used Internet Explorer 7 or earlier have three options:

  1. Use the DVD received through SSP or PSP
  2. Download the DVD ISO using the Firefox Web Browser or an FTP client
  3. Download the files individually (i.e. LabVIEW, Real-Time, FPGA, etc.)
Microsoft provides a free utility called Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel to mount the ISO file as a virtual drive. Follow the Related Link below which discusses how to customize Windows PE for a link to the Microsoft Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel.

After downloading the image using the Firefox Web Browser or an FTP client, use the Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel by following the instructions found in the Readme.txt file included within the utility.
