Simultaneously Running a Web Service and Remote Panels from a Startup Real-Time Executable

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module
Primary Software Version: 8.6
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
Can a LabVIEW Real-Time target simultaneously run a Web service and a startup real-time executable (RT EXE) with a remote panel?

Solution:
Yes, you can run both simultaneously. Note that the Web service is a new feature of LabVIEW 8.6, and that in this document, startup RT EXE refers to a stand-alone real-time application that is set to run at startup. See the Related Links section for information on both topics. Follow these steps to use both features at the same time:
  1. Create your startup RT EXE and its remote panel as described in KnowledgeBase 2GD9NCZ8.
  2. After you have the startup RT EXE running, create a Web Service and deploy it. The act of deploying the Web service involves connecting to the RT target which will stop the startup RT EXE.
  3. Once the web service is deployed, you can then reboot the RT target to run the startup RT EXE. The Web service will still be able to run when accessed via its URL.
If you would like the RT EXE and the Web Service to share data you can use network-published shared variables.
