Resman Hangs the Computer When Using MXI-2.

Hardware: VXI/VME/MXI>>MXI Interfaces>>VME-MXI-2

Problem:
Why Does Resman Hang or Return an Error When Using MXI-2?

Solution:
There are a few possibilities as to why Resman would hang or return an error.

First, make sure that the MXI-2 cable is attached properly. The cable should have a label near one of the connectors that says something similar to "Connect this end to device closest to MXI bus controller in this daisy chain." Be sure to connect that end closest to the system controller/computer. If the cable is attached backwards or not attached to the device that is closest to the MXI bus controller you will receive the following error:

VXI Resource Manager failed due to the following error: Unable to initialize NI-VXI driver. The interface associated with this session is not the system controller.

Both the PCI and the VXI-MXI-2 devices have factory override switches that may cause unexpected results. If the factory override switches are set to YES, the factory default settings are written to the EEPROM. Refer to the MXI-2 product manuals for detailed information.

To troubleshoot the issue, you can verify whether or not the PCI card is causing the problem. Resman will not run successfully if no MXI-2 cable is attached. However, Resman should run successfully by attaching the MXI-2 cable to the PCI-MXI-2 device with the other end of the cable unattached. If an error occurs or Resman does not run successfully, a malfunctioning PCI device or connection may be causing the problem.

Also, verify that the logical address for the VXI-MXI-2 device is not set to 0. Logical address 0 is reserved for the Resource Manager in the VXIbus system (i.e. the PCI-MXI-2). Because the VXI-MXI-2 cannot act as a Resource Manager, do not configure the VXI-MXI-2 with a logical address of 0.
